In a Roman dining-room
| Introduction | |||
| Luxury tablewares, particularly samian pottery, were imported in large amounts, particularly after the invasion in AD43. Samian is a glossy red-brown pottery originally from Arrezzo in Italy, and later from Gaul. It can be plain or decorated, and was mass-produced in many forms, using moulds. Some of the pottery was found in burials, perhaps containing food and drink for the afterlife of the deceased. |
