The Roman Army
|
||
| Introduction | ||
| Although the Roman army was in Sussex during the Roman occupation, surprisingly little evidence has been found. This is partly because soldiers were expected to care for their equipment, and so few personal effects were lost or discarded. It is also probable that the legion, the II Augusta, moved to the west soon after the invasion to deal with hostile tribes. | ||
| It is possible that the Roman invasion took place at Chichester as well as at Richborough in Kent in AD43. | ||
| The town of Noviomagus Reginorum (Chichester) was built soon after the invasion, under the guidance of the military commanders. | ||
