Question: How did Roman merchants weigh and measure their goods?

Plumb weight
This weight was probably used as part of a set of Roman scales. Goods were placed in a shallow bowl at one end, and the weights moved along a marked beam.

Steelyard balance
This is the beam used in Roman scales. Weights were placed at one end, and could be moved along the beam, and goods were placed in a shallow tray at the other end.
