Question: What objects did Romans bury with their dead?

Grave good vessels
All these vessels were found associated with a cremation burial. The small glass vessel is for perfume or medicine. Sometimes food and drink were buried with the dead , as it was believed that they would need them in the afterlife.

Samian plate and cup
These pieces of pottery were expensive, and indicate that items of real worth were ‘sacrificed’ in burials. They may also indicate the status of the dead person.

Lampholder
This lampholder may have been used as part of the cremation ritual, or buried for the dead person to use in the afterlife.

Mirror
