Question: What everyday domestic artefacts have been found?

Coin
This is a 3rd century Roman coin, which has been pierced, perhaps so it could be worn or carried on a thread. Perhaps it was considered as a lucky charm. It has textile impressions on it, from a bag or clothing.

Comb
This double-sided comb is made from bone or antler. It was found in the grave of a woman over 45 years old.

Bronze bowl
This fine bronze bowl is almost complete. It has been decorated with small bosses. It is about 250mm wide and 70mm high.

Bucket
This nearly complete wooden bucket is a rare find, although similar bronze bindings have been found in many other burials.

Glass bottles
This is a small Roman glass bottle which has been buried as a Saxon grave good. It shows that Roman objects survived, and were valued in Saxon times. The transition to Saxon rule did not mean that the Roman past was rejected.
