| Question:
What everyday domestic artefacts have been found? |
| |
| |
| Coin |
| This is a 3rd century Roman coin, which has been pierced, perhaps so it could be worn or carried on a thread. Perhaps it was considered as a lucky charm. It has textile impressions on it, from a bag or clothing. |
|
| Comb |
| This double-sided comb is made from bone or antler. It was found in the grave of a woman over 45 years old. |
|
| Bronze bowl |
| This fine bronze bowl is almost complete. It has been decorated with small bosses. It is about 250mm wide and 70mm high. |
|
| Bucket |
| This nearly complete wooden bucket is a rare find, although similar bronze bindings have been found in many other burials. |
|
| Glass bottles |
| This is a small Roman glass bottle which has been buried as a Saxon grave good. It shows that Roman objects survived, and were valued in Saxon times. The transition to Saxon rule did not mean that the Roman past was rejected. |
