| Hayling Island |
| Temples were very rare in Britain before the Roman invasion. One of the best examples is located just outside the Sussex border at Hayling Island in Hampshire. A central shrine contained a pit where offerings to the gods may have been placed. Most of the rituals including animal sacrifice would have taken place outside of this building. |
