| A small late Iron Age defended settlement in the Weald (c.7.5 acres in size). During the 1st century AD, there is evidence of ironworking, but in the early Roman period the industrial workings were leveled and domestic buildings eventually erected. All were of timber construction except for a small stone bathhouse that probably belonged to an official. Imported fineware and glass was also found. The bathhouse was dismantled at the end of the 2nd century and the site then fell into dis-use. |
