| Chichester, the only town of Roman Sussex, has only a little of its Roman heritage left on display. The most impressive is large sections of the imposing 3rd century walls and 4th century bastions that are particularly prominent in the southwest corner of the city. The remains of a mosaic may still be seen within the Cathedral, and part of the raised earth bank amphitheatre can be detected by continuing beyond Eastgate, along the Hornet and turning right down a narrow passageway, which forms the north end of Whyke Lane. Further to the north, the remains of some of the late Iron Age Chichester entrenchments can be found, although these are generally quite overgrown and difficult to identify. For more information on Roman Chichester, see 'Chichester and District Museum' in Museums. | ||||
